Backlit button-grid controller, 40h to 2022-era grid one / zero

The grid is monome's line of USB button-grid controllers, made since 2006. It has no fixed function: when connected to a computer, norns or a Eurorack module, the application determines what it does, for example a sequencer or sample cutter. Editions range from the 8x8 40h and the 64, 128 and 256-key series grids to the 16-step variable-brightness grids from 2012 onward and the RP2040-based grid one (8x16) and grid zero (16x16) of 2023.

Notes

The 40h, monome kit and early series grids have public firmware sources (some under non-commercial CC terms), while the 2022 grid, grid one and grid zero take monome's open iii firmware, which can switch back to the original serial mode. Grids from 2020-2021 and the older FTDI-based editions cannot run iii; use the viii browser emulator instead. Most grid apps run on the host or norns through serialosc and are software. No repository for 2011-2021 grid firmware was found. DIY grid clones (NeoTrellis-based) are covered by the neotrellis-monome entry.
