Tenori-on

YamahaControllers

16 x 16 LED button grid instrument for looping note patterns

The Tenori-on (TNR-O) is a handheld instrument from Yamaha designed by the artist Toshio Iwai and Yu Nishibori of Yamaha's Center for Advanced Sound Technology. Its face is a 16 by 16 grid of LED buttons on which you draw loops of notes that play back in layers, with a built-in sound source and MIDI support. Firmware updates are loaded from an SD card, using a numbered stock release such as 2.10.

Notes

The one catalogued firmware replaces the whole OS with a cumulative build that is installed like Yamaha's own updates, and a failed first start can need a test-mode factory reset described in its install notes. Yamaha's own product page for the unit no longer resolves, so there is no manufacturer link here.
