Rossum Electro-MusicDrum machines

12-bit sampling drum machine, reissue of the E-mu SP-1200

The Rossum SP-1200 is a reissue of E-mu's classic 12-bit sampling percussion system, made by Rossum Electro-Music and sold from 2021 to 2025. Dave Rossum, who designed the original, kept the analog and digital sound path as close to the 1987 unit as possible, with its pads, sequencer and eight individual outputs. It adds a memory card in place of the floppy drive, which can also import vintage disk images, and the maximum sampling memory the original sound engine allows.

Notes

The unit keeps its firmware in internal EEPROM and updates from a file on the memory card. The one catalogued mod loads into memory only, so it is gone at power-off, and it is built in the browser from Rossum's own 1.04 download. The original E-mu SP-1200 boots from floppy and has its own separate community mod, SPf1200, which is not catalogued here.
