SQ-64

KorgControllers

Polyphonic step sequencer with CV, gate and MIDI

The SQ-64 is Korg's hardware step sequencer: three melody tracks and one drum track with 16 sub-tracks, up to 64 steps per pattern, entered on 64 lit pads that also work as a keyboard. Each melody track has pitch, gate and modulation CV outputs, the drum track has eight trigger outputs, and there are MIDI in, two MIDI outs, sync in and out, and USB. It runs from USB or a 9 V adaptor in an 18 mm aluminum case.

Notes

System updates are .VSB files sent as SysEx over USB MIDI with the unit in update mode (hold GLOBAL + PATTERN at power-on); Korg's latest is 2.03. The custom firmwares listed here are from-scratch images written against an independent specification and tested in an emulator. The specification's board contract leaves the exact MCU part, wiring and electrical limits unverified, so none is confirmed safe on a physical unit. Power loss while internal flash is being programmed may be unrecoverable, and there is no documented SWD/JTAG recovery path. Keep Korg's official .VSB to return to stock through the installed firmware's own updater.
