Description

The MU2000 and MU1000 share a 32 MiB wave ROM that the CPU cannot read directly. The web page uses SysEx messages the unit's firmware already accepts, which are not in the manual, and writes four 8 MiB ROM image files. The MU2000 page reads through the sampler messages and takes about four hours; the MU1000 page reads through register messages, takes about twenty hours and can resume after a stop. For the MU2000 there is also a route without a MIDI interface: two small MIDI files make the synth save the ROM to its SmartMedia card as WAV samples, and a Node script rebuilds the ROM files from them. The README says testing on real hardware is still in progress for the MU2000 and has not started for the MU1000, and that the MU128 is not supported. The extracted images are the ones the S-MU2000 emulator needs.

Install notes

Needs a MIDI interface with both In and Out connected and a browser with Web MIDI (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox with the site permission add-on). Keep the tab open and send nothing else to the synth while it runs. The card route plays a SysEx-only MIDI file that fills sample slots 509 to 512 (or 512 alone) in the unit, so free those slots first. The tool reads Yamaha's ROM contents into files on your computer; do not share the resulting images.
