mi-sim
Tool for Mutable Instruments cross-module tools (Mutable Instruments)
macOS simulator that runs the unmodified Mutable Instruments firmware for Plaits, Rings and Elements block by block against a virtual panel, with Python bindings, a GUI with live audio and a test suite.
- Distribution
- Build from source yourself
- License notes
- Covers the simulator code. The bundled upstream firmware keeps its own licences (MIT for STM32 modules, GPL for AVR modules).

Description
Pulls the upstream pichenettes/eurorack source in as a submodule and replaces only the STM32 drivers, so the real UI, calibration and flash-settings code run as on hardware. Pots, CV jacks, buttons, LEDs and virtual flash are exposed for scripting and tests. The layout is per module so others can be added. A guide in the repository covers encoding firmware for the audio bootloader and flashing real modules.
Install notes
Clone with submodules, install cmake and ninja, and run make build and make gui MODULE=rings (or plaits, elements). Needs Apple clang on macOS.
