Description

MDX is a third-party operating system for the Machinedrum (SPS-1 and the UW versions) that has been released since 2020. The X.20 preview, also called MDX 2.0, adds independent track lengths and speeds, microtiming, trig conditions, fill mode, retrigs, per-pattern tempo, up to 64 steps per track and a new storage format for patterns, kits, songs and snapshots. It also lets you load user machines over MIDI into Machine Manager slots, which is the basis for the other user-machine projects on this page. X.14 is the stable release. The authors state that MDX is developed independently with permission from Elektron and is not affiliated with the company. The repository holds the release packages, checksums and MIDI/SysEx documentation but no source code.

Install notes

Back up snapshots and internal memory over SysEx before upgrading. X.20 saves patterns, kits and songs in a new format that older firmware cannot load, and on units without the +Drive option it cuts song capacity from 32 to 16 and deletes songs 17 to 32. To go back to X.14 or older, install that OS and then run Factory Reset from the boot menu (hold FUNC while powering on). The repository also links to a support Discord and an issue tracker.
