Mutable InstrumentsEurorack & modular

Texture synthesizer / granular processor (discontinued)

Clouds is an 18HP Eurorack granular texture processor designed by Émilie Gillet and sold by Mutable Instruments from 2015 to 2017. It records incoming stereo audio into a buffer of one to eight seconds and plays back clouds of grains from it, followed by a diffusion network and reverb. The module uses an STM32F405 at 168 MHz and a WM8731 codec.

Notes

Mutable Instruments firmware is MIT-licensed (STM32 code) and the hardware is CC-BY-SA-3.0. Derivatives may not use the Mutable Instruments name. Parasites by Matthias Puech also exists for Tides (v1.121), Warps (v1.01) and Frames (v1.21); those modules have no device page here, so only the Clouds build is catalogued. After Later Audio Monsoon and Typhoon ship Parasites / Superparasites-based firmware. Both Parasites and Beat-Repeat document some risk of bricking on flashing; see each entry.
