Five-track pocket recorder with a microSD-card OS and USB-C disk mode

5 Moons is a five-track pocket recorder from Critter & Guitari. It records at 48 kHz, 16 bit to a microSD card, has a USB-C port that doubles as a disk mode for moving recordings to a computer or DAW, and a USB 3.0 jack the manual says has no function yet. The operating system and all recordings are on the card. Critter & Guitari now lists it in its Museum of Retired Instruments.

Notes

Holding all five track buttons with USB-C connected enters Disk Mode, where songs and files can be copied (the manual asks that song folders and file names keep their numbering). The operating system is on the microSD card; writing the disk image linked in the manual (5 Moons v1.0) with balenaEtcher resets the unit to factory state and erases the card, and a larger card flashed with that image gives a larger recording partition. The repository publishes the system software but the manual documents no user-installable modes.
